HOW OUR INTENSIVE THERAPY PROGRAMME WORKS :

We offer both individual consultations in our rooms which may last from 30 minutes to 1 hour as well as our unique Intensive therapy programme typically for 3 to 4 hours per day, 5 days a week for 3 to 6 weeks.  We offer a morning and an afternoon programme subject to availability.

Following the completion of an intensive programme families may be interested in continuing services at Ablecare. An Ongoing Modified programme and clinical sessions can be discussed after the completion of the intensive programme to continue goal development and achievements.

A TYPICAL DAY WITH THE INTENSIVE THERAPY PROGRAMME

If this is your first visit with the intensive therapy progarmme, the first day will consist of a comprehensive initial evaluation. During this day we customise the therapy programme for your child.

A typical day may include 30 - 60 minutes of Body Preparation work including heat packs, specialised massage techniques, myofacial release, laser point percussion therapy, stretching and other sensory preparation and developmental activities. Dynamic Muscle Elastic Taping or suit activities will then occur for 1 - 1.5 hours as well as focused activities and exercises in the sensory developmental unit for 1 - 1.5 hours.

We focus on postural tone normalisation and trunk exercises, co-ordination and integration exercises, gross and fine motor development, cognitive and speech development, sensory integration and learning and cognitive planning skill development.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE COGNIOSENSORY PROGRAMME

The cogniosensory programme is an additional or separate programme to the intensive therapy programme.  This is a developmental approach that integrates the sensory modalities and focuses on expressive, communicative and cognitive skills .  This is a 10 - 30 day programme which aims at improving perception, reception and the ability to learn and interact with the world.   A typical programme consists of either two 30 minute sessions or an hour session daily for 10 to 30 days ( includes weekends ). Each session is an individual experience that develops your child's senses to integrate input and the brain to interpret and use the information. After completing a course of the programme we provide an individualised cogniosensory kit for you to continue the programme at home.

The cogniosensory programme has been developed for the following :

AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDERS                     CHALLENGING BEHAVIOUR

ADD AND ADHD                                                       ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURY

CEREBRAL PALSY                                                    DEVELOPMENTAL DELAY

LEARNING ISSUES & DYSLEXIA                           CORTICAL SENSORY IMPAIRMENT

THE GOALS OF THE PROGRAMME

The goal of each intensive therapy programme course is to progress each child to the next developmental level or milestone. Intensive therapy programmes are known to be able to progress skills around 6 months developmentally as well as increases in strength.

It is our aim that when your child returns home it will be with a new skill level.  We provide in depth progress reports and home programmes so that your child will be able to continue their gains once they leave our programme.
