AN EXAMPLE OF A TYPICAL DAY
A typical day may include 30 - 60 minutes of Body Preparation work including heat packs, specialised massage techniques, myofacial release, laser point percussion therapy, stretching and other sensory preparation and neuromotor activities. When you commence with the rehabilitation programme the first day will involve a comprehensive assessment and from this we individualise your rehabilitation programme using a combination of wholistic integrated techniques.
Gait retraining, dynamic muscle elastic taping exercise or motor relearning and skill development activities will then occur for 1 - 1.5 hours as well as focused activities and exercises in the rehabilitation unit for 1 - 1.5 hours. The rehabilitation programme includes cogniosensory therapy. This is an approach that integrates the sensory modalities and focuses on expressive, communicative and cognitive skills . The therapy aims at improving perception, reception and the ability to interact with the world.
A typical programme consists of either two 30 minute sessions or an hour session daily. Each session is an individual experience that stimulates the senses and aims to assist the brain to integrate sensory input and use the information to enhance skills and ability. Sensory Rehabilitation is included in the rehabilitation programme to enhance and stimulate alertness and responsiveness. An individualised sensory programme may also assist in decreasing agitation and stress post injury.
After completing an intensive rehabilitation programme we provide an individualised cogniosensory kit and home programme for you to continue at home. Individual clinical consultations are also available for families and individuals who require longer rehabilitation programmes or ongoing therapy.
